It Has Been A Long Journey, But Here Is A New Beginning.

My name is Conall Hoey; I am a qualified Athletic Rehabilitation Therapist from Dublin City University. Over the last few years I have studied at Dublin City University where I specialized in injury and rehabilitation related to the musculoskeletal system.

Many people ask how an AT differs from a physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy is a broad based health care profession that not only addresses musculoskeletal care of the physically active but also deals with a number of diverse medical fields, including oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, rheumatology, respiratory and neurological illnesses and burn injuries.

Athletic Therapy specialises in musculoskeletal injuries related to physical activity. Such specialization allows graduates of Athletic Therapy to examine this area in much greater detail than a student of physiotherapy.

Athletic therapists look at the whole picture of an athlete and player performance, implementing sports specific rehabilitation with aims of improving the strength, coordination, prevention strategies for future injury and more complete recovery times after an initial injury.

Over the past four years I have had the opportunity to work in professional team environments from my time with Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C and at the top level of Gaelic Games with DCU Sigerson squads, Dublin Minor squad 2014, Na Fianna, St Vincent’s GAA and this year the Louth Minor team.

I am a certified strength and conditioning coach with the NCSC Ireland. The combination of physical therapy treatment, sports specific rehab and the implementation of strength and conditioning have given me the necessary skills to work with elite athletes in addition to the non-athletic population.

Over the coming months I plan to continue my professional development and next month will complete a dry needling course; Acupuncture.

This will be the first of what I hope will be a series of blogs, where I will keep you updated regularly on the latest in injury prevention advice, cutting edge physical therapy, rehabilitation and exercise research.

Any questions about my services, my opinions or making an appointment, don’t hesitate to contact me in the contact section on the home page and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Welcome to the ‘virtual’ world of Conall Hoey Therapy.

And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
